Is TRX Safe for Pregnancy? My Experience with Suspension Training While Expecting.

By Shana Verstegen

When I first found out I was pregnant, I had so many questions – especially about fitness. As someone who loves to move, I wanted to stay active, but needed to make sure I was doing so safely. Could I still train the way I used to? Were there exercises I needed to avoid? And most importantly, was my daily TRX routine pregnancy-approved? It didn’t take much digging to uncover the many benefits of prenatal exercise.

Why Movement Matters During Pregnancy

The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) highlights numerous benefits of exercise during pregnancy, including:

  • Reduced back pain
  • Lower risk of gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and cesarean birth
  • Improved heart health
  • Better weight management
  • Easier postpartum recovery

Every pregnancy is unique, so consulting a healthcare provider before starting or continuing an exercise program is always a good idea.

Why I Chose TRX for Prenatal Training

A longtime fan of the TRX Suspension Trainer™, I developed a newfound appreciation for its versatility during pregnancy. Here’s what made it the perfect fit:

1. It Adapted to My Changing Body

Some days, I had energy. Other days, even standing up felt like a workout. TRX allowed me to adjust the intensity of my movements accordingly. I could make exercises easier or harder just by shifting my stance, which meant I never felt pressured to push beyond my limits.

2. It Helped with Balance and Stability

As my belly grew, so did my need for extra support. TRX provided just enough stability to help me move confidently while still challenging my muscles and improving joint strength. Since pregnancy hormones can increase joint laxity, having the Suspension Trainer as a tool helped me feel secure and in control.

3. It Kept Me Upright

Lying flat on my back for core work was out of the question, especially later in pregnancy. TRX allowed me to train my core in a standing position while also maintaining proper alignment and posture.

4. It Relieved Tension and Aches

Pregnancy can create tightness in the lower back, hips, and chest due to postural changes and weight distribution. Using TRX to incorporate gentle mobility and stretching gave my tired muscles a break and helped me feel more comfortable.

More Than Just a Workout

As I moved through pregnancy, I realized that training wasn’t just about staying fit – it was about preparing my body for labor, delivery, and recovery. TRX became more than a piece of equipment; it was my go-to tool for staying strong, mobile, and confident as my body changed.

Now, as I approach postpartum recovery, I know TRX will continue to support me in regaining strength safely. Whether you’re expecting, a new mom, or a fitness professional working with prenatal clients, TRX offers an adaptable and empowering way to stay active.
