We’re gonna get on our soapboxes for a second just to dispel this whole notion of what it means to have a “natural childbirth.” At HATCH we believe that every birthing experience is natural, ‘cause what could possibly be more natural than giving birth to a child? It’s basically 100% totes natch.
That being said, there are various ways to have an unmedicated birthing experience if you so choose to. So if that’s something you want to do, our advice is to plan for it. If you think, well maybe I will, maybe I won’t, you probably won’t. ‘Cause guess what? Labor is painful! Like really painful, and there are certain tools you can use to help cope with the pain if you know them in advance. So if unmedicated birthing is on your to-do list, we recommend taking a birthing class that focuses on as little intervention as possible, and maybe even working with a doula to advocate for your choices and to work with you during labor. Whatever you decide, giving birth is a natural, transcendent experience – drugs or no drugs, vaginal or c-section….however it happens!
